Navan Education Centre - one of 21 such full-time Centres throughout the country - provides support for teachers, schools, principals, Boards of Management and allied school personnel in counties Meath and Louth. The region has approximately 224 schools, both primary and post primary. Navan also gives professional ICT support to the schools and teachers of Co Cavan. In total we support over 4,000 teachers and allied school personnel. The centre is funded by the Teacher Education Section of the Department of Education and Science (DES) under the European Social Fund National Development Plan. It is managed by a committee elected annually at the Centre's AGM. Day-to-day management and administration are the responsibility of Director, Bernadette McHugh and staff. The Centre was established in 1972 in the Navan Vocational School and then moved to St Anne’s Loreto Convent in 1974. The present building was officially opened by the Minister for Education, Michael Woods TD on 25 May 2001.
